How to add music to a video on iPhone

A song changes how a video feels more than any filter. Video Grid Collage puts music under a single clip or a whole collage, balances it against the original sound and fades it in and out — so the track starts and ends where you want instead of cutting off mid-beat.

You'll need: an iPhone (iOS 18+) · the free Video Grid Collage app · ~5 minutes

Step by step

01

Open your video or collage

In Video Grid Collage (free on the App Store), tap + on the start screen, choose Image or Video and pick your clips, or start from any template.

02

Insert a song

Tap Insert → Audio and choose Music library for songs on your iPhone or Audio file for tracks saved in Files.

03

Place and trim the track

The song appears on the timeline. Line it up with your footage and use Split to cut away the parts you don't need.

04

Set the volume and fades

Select the song to change its Volume, and add Fade In and Fade Out so the music starts and ends smoothly.

05

Balance the original sound

Tap a video clip, then Sound to lower its volume or Mute it — handy for wind noise or background chatter.

06

Export and share

Export up to 4K. The music is part of the file, so it plays on every platform.

Frequently asked questions

Can I use songs from Apple Music?
Songs from an Apple Music subscription are copy-protected, so video editors can't export them. Use songs you bought in the iTunes Store, royalty-free music or audio files saved in Files.
Can I add music to a collage of several videos?
Yes. The song plays under the whole collage, and you can still set the sound of each clip separately.
Can I add a voice-over?
Yes. Record it with Voice Memos, save it to Files and add it with Insert → Audio → Audio file. You can even caption it automatically.
