How to remove the background from a video on iPhone

You don't need a green screen to cut yourself out of a video anymore. Video Grid Collage finds the person, pet or object in every frame and removes everything behind it, right on your iPhone. Then you drop the cutout onto a solid color, a photo, another video or a transparent background.

You'll need: an iPhone (iOS 18+) · the free Video Grid Collage app · ~5 minutes

Step by step

01

Open your video

In Video Grid Collage (free on the App Store), tap + on the start screen, choose Image or Video and pick the clip with the person or object you want to keep.

02

Select the clip

Tap the video on the timeline to show its tools.

03

Tap Remove BG

Choose People only for selfies, talking heads and dance clips, or Any subject for pets, products and other objects. The app processes every frame of the clip.

04

Add a new background

Tap Insert → Background and choose a photo or video from your library or Files, a solid Color, or Transparent.

05

Match the look

Use Adjust on the cutout to tune brightness and temperature so it sits naturally on the new background.

06

Export

Export up to 4K at 60 fps and share it anywhere.

Frequently asked questions

Do I need a green screen?
No. The app detects the subject in every frame automatically, so any background works — although a plain, well-lit one gives the cleanest edges.
Can I remove the background from a photo too?
Yes. Remove BG works on photos as well as videos, so you can mix cutout photos and clips in one collage.
Can I put myself on top of another video?
Yes. Add the other video as the background with Insert → Background, or add your clip as an overlay on top of it and remove the background from the overlay.
