How to make a gradient split screen video
A classic split screen draws a hard line between two clips. A gradient split screen does the opposite: the edges melt into each other, so two videos read as one dreamy shot — a sunset fading into city lights, you fading into your younger self. In Video Grid Collage, one slider sets how soft the seam is.
Step by step
Pick a Gradient template
Open Video Grid Collage (free on the App Store) and choose a template in the Gradient section of the start screen — vertical, landscape or square.
Add your two clips
Put a video or a photo into each part.
Set the softness
Tap Gradient → Softness and drag the slider: at the low end you get a crisp split, at the high end one clip melts into the other.
Change the split
Tap Gradient → Layout to place the clips side by side or top and bottom, in halves or in a one-third and two-thirds split.
Line up the moments
Trim both clips on the timeline so the key moments play together, and match their colors with Filters or Adjust.
Export
Export up to 4K with HDR and share.
What blends beautifully
- Pair clips with similar brightness — a dark clip fading into a bright one looks like a mistake.
- Keep calm areas at the seam, like sky, water or walls. Busy detail on both sides turns the blend muddy.
- Then and now: fade an old video of a place into today's footage from the same spot.
- A slow zoom animation on one clip makes the blend feel cinematic.
