# How to make a video collage for YouTube

Side-by-side comparisons, multi-camera recaps, a grid of highlights — a video collage works as a whole YouTube video or as a part of one. YouTube videos are horizontal 16:9, so the trick is to choose a layout that suits your clips. Here's how to make one on iPhone.

**Short answer:** a regular YouTube video is 16:9 — 1920×1080, or 3840×2160 in 4K. In Video Grid Collage, tap **Video** under **YouTube** on the start screen, or pick a layout in the **Landscape** section, add your clips, sync them on the timeline and export in up to 4K at 60 fps.

**You'll need:** an iPhone (iOS 18+) · the free [Video Grid Collage](https://apps.apple.com/app/apple-store/id6743649992?pt=123926799&ct=en-youtube-16x9&mt=8) app · ~5 minutes

## Step by step

### 1. Start a 16:9 project

Open [Video Grid Collage](https://apps.apple.com/app/apple-store/id6743649992?pt=123926799&ct=en-youtube-16x9&mt=8) (free on the App Store). On the start screen, tap **Video** under **YouTube**, or choose a ready-made layout in the **Landscape** section.

### 2. Add your clips

Pick your videos and photos — up to 9 play at once. Try other arrangements under **Grid → Layout** until they suit your clips.

### 3. Sync and trim

Every cell has its own track on the timeline: trim each clip so the moments line up, and add more clips to a cell to keep it playing for the whole video.

### 4. Add titles and music

Tap **Text** for titles and labels, **Captions** for subtitles, and **Insert → Audio** for music.

### 5. Export in 4K

Export in 1080p or 4K at up to 60 fps, with HDR if your clips have it, and upload the file to YouTube.

## Layouts that fit 16:9

- Four horizontal clips in a 2×2 grid fill a 16:9 frame exactly — each tile is 16:9 itself.
- Three vertical phone clips side by side fill 16:9 almost perfectly, with hardly any cropping.
- For a reaction or a commentary, keep the main video full-frame and add your clip as a small window with **Insert → Overlay**.
- For a Short, use the same clips in a 9:16 project — **Shorts** under **YouTube**.
